FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers for players, hosts and venues.
No. Just show up with your crew and pick a team name. A free account is only for tracking your stats, earning badges and saving your game history.
No. One person can scan the code on the TV to register your team, or you can just give the host your team name. Either way, phones go away once the game starts.
Scan the QR code on the TV, or enter the game code at soundchecktrivia.com/join, then type your team name. You can add your players' emails if you want to track stats. No phone? Tell the host your team name and they'll add you.
There are 5 rounds of 5 questions: 4 multiple choice and 1 bonus. Points go up every round, from 10 per correct answer in round 1 to 50 in round 5, so you're never out of it. There's no penalty for wrong guesses (except bonuses).
It's a write-in question at the end of every round, and your team decides whether to play it. Get it right and your whole game score doubles. Get it wrong and you lose that round's points only. Don't answer and you stay right where you are.
Every question comes with its own song. It may or may not be a hint. That's part of the fun.
No phones or other electronics during a question. Anyone caught on a phone during a question gets 0 points for that question. Need to take a call? Step away and come back when the question is done.
Use Find a Game, enter your ZIP code, and pick how far you'll travel and which day. If there's nothing near you yet, sign up to hear when a new venue opens nearby.
If you already have an account, the game is saved to it automatically. If you don't, we'll email you a link to create one, and your results will be waiting.
Your SoundCheck Trivia score for playing. You earn Cred for every game you play, every correct answer, every new venue you try and every question you suggest. Cred moves you up levels and earns badges. It's separate from your game score.
Yes. Use Suggest a Question in the menu or at soundchecktrivia.com/suggest. No account needed.
Scan the "Rate your host" or "Rate the venue" code on the Thanks for playing screen after the game, or leave a review on the host's or venue's page any time.

Create a free account, apply as a host and fill out your host profile. Then team up with a venue: one you already know, or one that finds you in the Host Directory.
No. Every game comes fully built: questions, answers, a song for every question and a fun fact. You just run the show.
You work directly with each venue to set your own hours and fee. SoundCheck Trivia doesn't handle host pay.
The venue invites you to its account by email. Accept the invite and the venue appears in your account menu. The venue decides what you can do there, such as running games or managing the TVs.
A laptop or tablet to run the game, a speaker or PA, a microphone, and the cables to connect them. Some venues supply part of it, so ask first. Host training covers it all.
When you start a game, you pick which TVs it uses: all of the venue's paired TVs are selected by default, and you can add or drop TVs during the game. You can also cast the TV screens from the Host app or Chrome, or plug a laptop into a TV and use Open TV window. Only the TV screens are shown; your host screen with the answers stays on your device. TV not showing the game? See Troubleshooting.
You can, but a laptop or tablet is much easier for a 2 to 3 hour night.
A list venues use to find hosts near them. You choose whether you're listed and who can contact you. Your ZIP code is never shown, only the area you serve and how far you'll travel.
Know a venue that needs trivia? Each referral offer gives you a personal code and link once you connect Stripe. When a new venue signs up with it and meets the offer's requirement, you earn the reward. Rewards are earned only on paid subscriptions: free promotional time a venue receives doesn't count. See the Referrals page for the offers running now.
It's earned by finishing all four host training tracks. Venues looking for a host can see it on your profile.
Yes. Every venue has a free Test Game that plays exactly like a real game but records nothing.

A library of fully built games (at least one new game added every week), the system to run them on your TVs, your own promo screens, email marketing tools, analytics, staff accounts and free training. Every plan includes everything; see the Venue Owners page for plans.
Yes. Bring your own host, or find one near you in the Host Directory. Your host runs the game from their own account.
You get one game credit every week, and one credit plays one full game. Unused credits roll over for a while, so skipping a week is fine. See "How every plan works" on the Venue Owners page for the details.
No. Teams can join with a phone in seconds, or just give the host their team name.
Any of these: our SoundCheck Trivia TV app on a Fire TV or Google TV device, a smart TV's web browser, casting from a phone, tablet or laptop, or a laptop plugged in with HDMI.
The SoundCheck Trivia TV app on a streaming device is the best choice: it opens on its own, plays video with sound, and can keep showing your promo screens even when the internet is down. More storage means more room for your screens and videos. See the device chart below.
